FED: EARNINGS UP 2 PER CENT IN YEAR
CANBERRA, Dec 11 AAP - The size of the average pay packet increased by two per cent in the
12 months to August this year.
New figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics said average earnings for a full time
job came in at $716 in August this year, up $15 from 12 months earlier.
The ABS said part time workers earned an average $270 a week, up from $260 a week in August
1997.
But it found men continued to earn more than women.
The average pay packet for a man in his main job came in at $695 in August, up $11 over 12
months.
But the main pay for women was only $465, up from $450 a year earlier.
The ABS said the two per cent increase in pay over the year compared to an average four per
